Name: Kate Taylor
Married: No
Where you grew up? My family’s Beef Cattle Property an hour East of Scone in the Hunter Valley, NSW. I grew up surrounded by cattle, Polo and race horses. In high school I was heavily involved in my school cattle teams and showed cattle at the Sydney Royal Easter Show as well as our local shows. I absolutely loved it!

Where do you live now and what do you do? Cloncurry, Qld. Currently I work in town, but I get out of town every chance I can get. In saying that, moving to town has allowed me to join the local Curry Merry Muster Festival Committee and to become their Rodeo Queen, which is a title I am so very honoured to hold. In January 2017 I will travel to Warwick in SE Queensland to compete for the title of “Miss Rodeo Australia”. Becoming the Curry Merry Muster Rodeo Queen has by far been the most challenging, but AMAZING goal I have ever set my heart on. The journey from start to finish has also allowed me to do some very special and important fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The RFDS is very spcial to me and it is also an honour to be able to help fund the continued development of the already amazing services that the RFDS provides to all Australians.

Why do I love the Rural life? I was born and raised on the land, it is in my blood you could say. My favourite place to be is out bush. I love the busy times when we’re full on mustering and riding horses all day long and I love the still in the afternoon when the work is done. I can’t wait to get back to that.

Why do you think it is important for talented ladies to stay rurally? We have so many amazing women that live in our rural areas. They provide a huge support network amongst themselves, for their families and the wider community. Although it is more common these days to see women working alongside their men in the paddock and yards. The agricultural industry has always been a male orientated industry and the emergence of so many women in the rural sector will only make our industry stronger and more sustainable for future generations to come.

Hobbies & Passions: I am a keen horsewoman, and love Campdraft and Rodeo! Some of my hobbies include photography and reading. My greatest joy is seeing my niece grow and become her own little person. I want to make sure she has the best possible opportunities. Our kids are our future and we need to provide a solid footing for them to grow and evolve into the next generation of whatever they may want to be, whether they want to be a farmer or a Doctor, a dancer or a mechanic.
